The fire blew in from Glendale and soon the whole ridge was burning. Fire companies converged to defend homes close to the hills. On March 19, 1964, nine homes were completely destroyed and seven heavily damaged.
We will show newly-acquired footage of this event and Joe Friezer’s prize-winning photos for the Eagle Rock Sentinel. We will explore the recurring advent of wind-driven brush fires in our hills, their causes, and the efforts to prevent them.. The Eagle Rock Valley Historical Society welcomes the public. Light refreshments will be served.
It wasn’t that long ago that keeping your photographs in order meant making a photo album or filling a slide reel and then storing them in a safe place. Now we have moved to a digital world and many want their pre-digital photographs in that world. Join David Dellinger, our new president, and Anne Mar, Assistant College Archivist/Metadata Specialist at Occidental College, who will discuss digitization standards, file formats, resolution, naming conventions, scanner and storage techniques.
Join us on October 17th at 7:00. The 67-year-old Highland Theatre, the last of a group of 1920s theaters that once formed the heart of Highland Park, has been designated a historic-cultural monument by the Los Angeles Cultural Heritage Commission.
